The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they will increase capacity to 80% at Sahlen Field. The move includes additional vaccinated seating sections in the 100L lower bowl, select physically distanced seating, accessible seating, and physically distanced seating pods in the 200L section. Out of the total ballpark capacity, 95% will be fully vaccinated seating sections and 5% will be physically distanced.
The news of the increased capacity came soon after the Blue Jays’ exciting return to Sahlen Field where they swept the Miami Marlins in a two-game series during their first homestand in Buffalo. President of Rich Baseball Operations, Mike Buczkowski, had this to say when asked about the Blue Jays return; “The one thing that was missing last year was the fans. There was a Major League game going on, and there were no fans at the stadium. This year that will be different, and I think it will be exciting for our fans. This is not something that happens too often as it has been over 100 years since Major League Baseball has been in Buffalo. We look forward to continuing to work together with the Blue Jays to have a successful season here at Sahlen Field.”
The Blue Jays have also announced that they will be extending their stay at Sahlen field through July 21. The extension comes as the Blue Jays announced the release of their next batch of tickets for sale. The team has made tickets available for a 10-game homestand from June 24 to July 4 as well as a six-game homestand — a pair of three-game series against Texas and Boston -from July 16-21. The news of their extension is sure to be exciting for the team since they have a strong Buffalo fanbase. “It has been exceptionally uplifting to have the fan support, to have the energy in a really significant way pulling for us and feeling that,” Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins said. “Even just in my seat, it feels very good. So, I can’t even imagine how much better that feels for our players.”
