Buffalo native Mike Buczkowski, a man whose name is synonymous with Buffalo Bisons baseball, will be formally inducted into the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 24th. This honor comes as a fitting tribute to a career that spans nearly four decades, marked by exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and a deep connection to the local community.

Buczkowski, who has been a part of the Buffalo Bisons organization since 1987, is the longest-tenured general manager in the team’s 139-year history. His 26-year tenure as GM, from 1994 to 2019, is a testament to his enduring commitment to the sport and to Buffalo. Since 2020, he has served as the President or Rich Baseball Operations, overseeing not only the Bisons but also the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals) and the West Virginia Black Bears of the Major League Baseball Draft League. Under his leadership, the Bisons led their league in attendance seven times, including setting the International League’s all-time attendance record in 1998. His ability to draw fans to the ballpark, year after year, is just one of the many reasons why Buczkowski has earned a place in the Hall of Fame.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, in 2019, Buczkowski was named the International League Executive of the Year, and in 2001, he accepted the prestigious Bob Freitas award for overall operational excellence from Baseball America on behalf of the team, becoming the first Triple-A team to be given the award twice (also in 1991). These accolades reflect his operational excellence and ability to create a family-friendly, exciting, and value-driven ballpark experience. Buczkowski’s passion for the game and his business acumen have not only solidified the Bisons’ place in the baseball world but have also ensured the team’s continued growth and success.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mike Buczkowski is a pillar of the Buffalo community. He serves on the boards of several local organizations, including the Western New York United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse Foundation, the Buffalo Police Foundation, and the Buffalo Bisons Charitable Foundation. His involvement in these organizations demonstrates his commitment to making Buffalo a better place for all its residents. Whether supporting youth sports or contributing to COVID-19 relief efforts, Buczkowski’s impact on the community is profound and far-reaching.

Mindy Rich, Chairman, Rich Products Corporation / Executive Chair, Rich Entertainment Group, spoke highly of Buczkowski’s influence, saying, “Bucz is a true ‘baseball guy’ with a passion for the hospitality side of the game and the art of customer service, as well. We are a far better club because of his leadership.” This sentiment was echoed by Joe Segarra, President Rich Entertainment Group / SVP Finance and Family Office, Rich Holdings, stating, “Mike is a trusted leader across our entire baseball footprint, including here in Buffalo with the Bisons as well as in Northwest Arkansas and West Virginia, and his induction into the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame serves as outstanding recognition for Mike’s deep commitment to Rich Baseball Operations and the entire Rich Entertainment Group.”

Buczkowski’s roots in Buffalo run deep. A graduate of Bishop Timon High School and Canisius College, he has always stayed true to his hometown. His grandfather, Huck Geary, played shortstop for the Bisons in the 1930s, adding another layer of personal significance to his induction into the Hall of Fame.

As Buczkowski looks back on his career, he remains humble and grounded. “It’s very humbling to be recognized by the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame,” he said. “I never thought I’d be recognized this way, and I’m beyond honored.”

The induction ceremony on August 24th will not only celebrate Mike Buczkowski’s incredible career but also his enduring legacy in Buffalo. His contributions to the Bisons, to baseball, and to the community have left an indelible mark, one that will be remembered and cherished for years to come.
