The Florida Key’s famed Overseas Highway has seen its share of change over the years. Standing the test of time is the Green Turtle Inn, the iconic bar and restaurant has anchored the historic drive since 1947. Those looking for a taste of Islamorada, travelers or locals, have found their way to the Turtle for generations.
Locals appreciate the Turtle’s casual, island atmosphere and a menu that is as diverse as it is delicious. Travelers are sure to find distinctive cuisine that’s authentic to the region. While the restaurant’s original Turtle chowder, featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, is still a signature dish, the menu has many new features.
“Since Chef Greg Bush upgraded all of our meats to prime quality, we’re cutting more and more steaks each week for our sought-after steak night,” said Green Turtle Inn’s General Manager, Chris Frank. “Now you can get a great steak, at a great price with great service, cooked to order on an open grill.”
The appetizer menu is full of new features, including Buffalo Cauliflower (a favorite of KETO dieters), Skillet Corn Bread served with maple bacon butter, and Bang-Bang Shrimp which is getting rave reviews.
Neighboring Kaiyo Grill & Sushi is a popular date night destination for locals and a place where Terry Nickels, Financial Analyst for Green Turtle Inn and Kaiyo Grill, says you’ll find a celebration of some kind happening every night.
“It’s the kind of place you want to celebrate an anniversary or birthday, or bring a first date for a memorable experience,” said Terry. “Kaiyo is the hidden jewel of the Keys and something about our beautiful interiors and inviting atmosphere just calls out for special occasions.”
The Kaiyo Happy Hour also draws a regular crowd, running Tuesday through Friday from 5-6 pm. But it’s not cocktails that have guests clamoring for seats, it’s half-off featured menu items. This unique twist on the traditional Happy Hour has been met with open arms by empty stomachs seeking the innovative mix of hot and cold fare Kaiyo serves up daily.
